Celebrity Jewelry
We watch the red carpet. We want to see the glitz
and the glamour. We love the jewels, but where do
they get them? Who’s just wearing loaners and who is
an owner? This article takes a look at some of the
buying trends of celebrities, where they shop, and
who’s a jewelryholic.
Celebrity jewelry buying trends have seen Rebecca
Romijn-Stamos receive a vintage four-carat Boucheron
ring from husband John Stamos. Babs (a.k.a. Ms.
Barbra Brolin nee Streisand) chose one of the most
timeless rings of all, a simple one carat round
diamond. Don’t be surprised, it is a classic. But as
for the ill-fated Minnelli-Gest union, the ring was
a teardrop-shaped 3.5 carat diamond. (That kiss
brought a teardrop to my eye for sure).
It was to Fred Leighton that Percy Gibson turned
when presenting one of our favorite serial brides,
Joan Collins, with that all important circle. He
went for a heart cut diamond in a nineteenth-century
setting. Michael Douglas also popped the question to
Welsh beauty Catherine Zeta-Jones with a ten-carat
antique marquis-cut diamond ring from Fred Leighton.
Kay Jewelers was the shop of choice for Toni
Braxton’s amour when he bought a four and a half
carat diamond ring featuring an oval-shaped center
stone with heart-shaped accents on either side. Even
Brad Pitt spent months with Italian designer Silvia
Damiani creating Jennifer Aniston's $200,000 spiral
ring, which is engraved with "Brad 2000" and
features 20 diamonds.
Neil Lane another popular jeweler to the stars
helped British director Guy Ritchie to present
Madonna with a platinum ring featuring a decorative
band and three round diamonds totaling five carats.
Also Jason Bateman plumped for a
three-and-a-half-carat diamond in a delicate
twenties setting from the jeweler for fiancé Amanda
Anka, and even Reese Witherspoons’ four-carat
Asscher-cut diamond ring from husband Ryan Phillippe
was a Neil Lane.
"Jewelryholics"
Elizabeth Taylor
Elizabeth Taylor is arguably one of the most famous jewelry collectors, often wearing jewelry expensive totalling several million dollars. She was until recently the owner of the very beautiful Taylor-Burton diamond.
Liberace
For decades, Liberace was known for his music,
candelabra, charisma, diamonds and dazzle. Today,
Liberace's legend lives on in The Liberace Museum
that houses his collections of rare and antique
pianos, classic cars, famous sequined and bejeweled
costume wardrobe, glittering stage jewelry, and rare
antiques, as well as his private papers and
memorabilia. Perhaps no areas in the museum are as
popular as those showcasing Liberace's lavish
costume collection and remarkable jewelry display.
Liberace's incredible, rhinestone-lined, full-length
Black Diamond Mink cape and a 200-pound "King
Neptune" costume, along with the world-famous red,
white and blue hot pants suit are a must see. Also
his breathtaking stage jewelry that helped makes the
Liberace legend shine even brighter. His trademark
candelabra ring, complete with platinum
"candlesticks" and diamond "flames." Also on
display: a dazzling white and yellow gold
piano-shaped ring, complete with 260 individually
set diamonds, as well Liberace's spectacular
piano-shaped wristwatch, paved in a glittering
collection of diamonds, rubies, sapphires and
emeralds. The museum is now the key funding arm for
The Liberace Foundation for the Performing and
Creative Arts which has been funding scholarship
grants for the arts since 1976.
Sean “P.Diddy” Combs
Dressing, acting and partying like a big shot paid
off for P. Diddy, who now has the yachts, furs,
diamonds, entourages and cash to back up his livin'-large
image. Just recently, coinciding with the release of
Hewlett Packard’s digital music player, the iPod,
P.Diddy planned to have his encrusted with 120
diamonds for the MTV Video Music Awards. His iPod
lit up the red carpet along with $8.3 million
dollars of diamonds including an 18-carat diamond
ring, 23 carat yellow diamond ring, diamond bracelet
and diamond watch by Jacob & Company. Even at his
post award bash P.Diddy supplied all his guests with
iPods (without the diamonds).
Jennifer Lopez
Don’t be fooled by the rocks that she’s got, many of
them were engagement rings anyway. In 2003 Ben
Affleck bought her a huge, 6-caret pink diamond
engagement ring from Harry Winston. Currently she
wears an 8-caret square-cut diamond ring from her
now husband Marc Anthony. Even in her wedding to
Anthony Jennifer was covered head-to-toe in
(borrowed) Neil Lane diamonds, while Marc sported
diamond cufflinks. Despite her love life, Jennifer
is a lover of diamonds. On February 11, 2005, she
unveiled her latest and most lavish creation, a
20-carat Diamond Jean. The jean, made from Turkish
denim and hand-washed in LA was worn during the show
to close the New York Fashion week. This jean is by
far the most expensive and extraordinary jean ever
produced. The centerpiece is a 17-carat D-color
Diamond, which is flanked by nine 33-point stones
around the pockets and waist. It is without question
a one-of-a-kind piece, and is being offered for sale
exclusively through Jennifer's New York showroom.
The jean which is priced at $2,000,000.00 will be
presented and delivered in an elegant glass case,
along with a personal note from Jennifer Lopez. All
certifications for the diamonds will be provided by
Steinmetz, exclusive supplier of diamonds for the
Diamond Jean. Prior to this extravagant piece
Jennifer’s J.Lo line only dealt in crystal rocks for
their jewelry.
